6 Expert Tips to Prepare Your Paris Rental While Away

Leaving Paris for vacation or a business trip? It's important to prepare your Paris apartment for your absence. Don’t forget to take the 6 following elements into consideration before leaving on holiday:

1. Turn off the main water source of the apartment, which is usually found under the kitchen sink. Leaks are common in apartment builidings in Paris, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. You don’t want to come home to a flooded apartment!
2. Turn off the gas. If the apartment uses gas, make sure the main gas source is turned off to avoid a gas leak. If your apartment has a gas boiler, turn it off. It will conserve energy and save you money.
3. Close all windows, shutters, blinds and curtains. Not only will it keep the apartment cool, but it will also deter break-ins. In the unfortunate event of a break-in, please note that most insurance companies will not reimburse you if the windows were left open. 
4. Do your chores! Wash the dishes, take out the trash, and clean the apartment. Not only will it be nice to return to a clean Parisian home, but it will keep away insects and any other unwanted creatures.
5. Don’t leave any perishable food items behind. You don’t want to return home and find old, rotting produce on the countertops or in the refrigerator.
6. Leave the dishwasher and washer/dryer doors open. It will prevent mold and unwanted smells in your furnished rental.
